Description: Made for an awareness contest on Youtube. It's pretty graphic so be warned. Your best bet is watching on Youtube. Vidders dropped a few frames.
I kept changing my mind about the cause I wanted to focus on. First I was thinking something similar to my Kick-Ass video about apathetic inaction in times people need help, then something like political correctness gone too far, THEN terminal cancer patients and how they deal with an expiration date (my mind goes to obscure places, I know). I also debated focusing on the recent rioting since I am UK born and bred, but I'm sure raising awareness for something that's never out of the paper is a futile gesture. But I wanted to be unique. I almost didn't make this video, as there were a few similar causes to this and I didn't really want to invade on that territory, especially since this video doesn't include nearly as much research or alternative sources of clips. But then I watched the Millenium trilogy from the Swedish books and there I had found my muse.
I have to say I actually have lost sleep over this video. Not only from trying to get everything perfect (because it deserves to be perfect) but I was also majorly disturbed by the Swedish statistics I dug up; I thought it was a typo at first. It's strange that one of the biggest countries on gender equality also has such a high domestic violence report.
The video has less statistics than it probably should; it's more of an amalgamation of a cause video and a fan video. Lisbeth Salander is one of the most compelling and complex characters I've ever seen in a film and its a testament to Stieg Larsson's dedication to the cause he was fighting for. And Noomi Rapace does a stellar job in her breakout role; you'll be seeing her next in the second Sherlock Holmes movie. I reccommend everyone read the books and see the films; don't wait for the American version being released in december.
Now holy shit, I need to vid something cheerful.
